Long brunette with soft caramel balayage and face-framing lightness, worn in loose, glossy waves in the salon.
Long blonde styled in soft waves, with a lived-in balayage kept bright through the lengths.
Long, wavy blonde with a sun-kissed balayage worn loose over one shoulder.

What balayage actually is.

It is the sun-kissed version of colour. Brighter through the lengths and ends, softer up at the root, and blended so there is nothing that announces where the colour starts.

The word is French for to sweep, which is how the lightness goes on: swept through your hair and placed where the light would naturally catch it. Every one is worked around your cut, your face and the way you actually wear your hair, so no two are the same.

Because it is not taken right up to the scalp, your roots never suddenly show. It grows out gradually and still looks like it is meant to look months later. That is what makes it low maintenance. Not that it is quicker to do, but that you are not tied to the salon every six weeks to keep it looking right.

You will read online that balayage means no foils. We work ours in foils, and we do it on purpose: it gives us control over exactly how far each piece lifts, and a more natural looking result than going freehand alone.

It is not a blonde-only service either. We do it on brunette and on copper, where it adds the same depth and light without flattening the colour underneath.

What it costs here.

One price, with everything listed.

Every colour service is a bespoke package. It’s a starting price because it depends on your hair’s length and thickness, and you’ll know your exact price before we start. What’s listed is what’s included. Want a cut too? You can upgrade to a cut and blow-dry when you book.

Signature Balayage

from £225

Soft, dimensional, lived-in colour, painted bespoke to you. Blonde, brunette or copper.

Includes: Balayage, root and gloss, and blow-dry.

Bespoke Balayage

from £330

The most detailed version, rich and dimensional from root to tip, for when the colour is being built entirely around your hair.

Includes: Balayage, root and gloss, and blow-dry.

Top Up Balayage

from £190

For keeping a balayage we have done. We refresh what is there rather than starting again. If yours was done somewhere else, we will start with a Signature or a Bespoke.

Includes: Balayage, root and gloss, and blow-dry.

If what you are after is bright all the way to the root, the whole blonde, that is not balayage. That is one of our bespoke blonding services.

Every service is built around the individual, so your price depends on the level of transformation, your hair length and its density. The prices here are where each one begins.

How often you will need it doing.

Every three to six months. Some people stretch it further, and because the regrowth is soft rather than a line, it stays wearable the whole way through.

Grey coverage runs on a different clock. If you are covering grey as well, expect your roots doing every six to eight weeks, because that is how quickly the regrowth shows. That is worth knowing before you book, not after.

If getting in often is the problem, say so at your free in-salon assessment. We will build the colour around how often you can realistically come in, which is a large part of what makes it low maintenance in the first place.

“Hannah suggested balayage on my natural hair. Fantastic, and I love it. Already looking forward to my next appointment.”

Balayage questions.

  • Is balayage cheaper than highlights?

Not usually. Our Signature Balayage is from £225 and a full head of babylights is from £207, so they sit close together. Roots and gloss, an all-over colour refresh, is from £104. Balayage is hand painted, which is where the time goes.

  • Do you do balayage on dark hair and on red hair?

Yes. Balayage is not a blonde-only service. We do it on brunette and on copper, and on copper especially it is the difference between a colour that fades badly and one that fades beautifully.

  • Will balayage damage my hair?

Any lightening asks something of your hair, which is why we look at yours first and will tell you honestly what it can safely take. Hair health comes before the colour here, every time. Done properly you can keep colouring it, appointment after appointment, without ever being told to take months off to let it recover.

  • How long does the colour last?

Three to six months before you need it doing again, which is the whole point of balayage. It is placed so your roots never suddenly show, so it still looks right months after you sat in the chair.
